Facing the Highlanders in Super Rugby Aotearoa on Sunday, the Crusaders would be looking to mark the final home game of the year with a win, having lost in their last outing at Orangetheory Stadium.
The game is a sell-out which was something first five-eighths Richie Mo'unga was looking forward to as the Crusaders look to wrap the competition up.
Mo'unga, who was rated the best first five-eighths in the country by coach Scott Robertson, said the competition had been tough, especially having played 80 minutes of each game.
Mo'unga said his increased play in taking the ball to the line was not something he set out to do every game.
But with the pack performing well, teams were focusing on countering them a bit more and that allowed Mo'unga more space.
"If it's something I can do to impact on the team in a positive way then that's what I'll do," he said.
Preparation was something he took great pride in because he was told from a young age that preparation equalled performance.
Mo'unga said the quality of five-eighths playing in New Zealand was great for the depth in rugby and he had enjoyed playing against Aaron Cruden when he achieved his 100th game at the weekend.
"He's someone that I came out of school looking up to and moulded my game around because we're the same weight and same height," he said.
It was also healthy to have Beauden Barrett back at first five-eighths because it lifted everyone's game and made Mo'unga want to perform better.
Mo'unga said Scott Hansen, who joined the Crusaders as backs coach this year, had worked closely with him and that was a continuation of the three years he had with him at Linwood after he finished school.
"It's good to have that connection back. He can be hard on me, he's honest with me and tells it to me straight. He's growing me, and I'm growing him, and I think that's a healthy relationship," he said.
