No pressure Beauden, but that is the situation facing two-time World Rugby player of the year Barrett in making his first start at first five-eighths for the Blues in Super Rugby Aotearoa against the Chiefs on Sunday.
It has been what Blues fans, already enjoying their best season in a decade, have been waiting for since Barrett first signed with the franchise.
Injury to usual starter Otere Black has given Barrett his chance and with the side having suffered consecutive losses to the Crusaders and Hurricanes, it is a chance for the side to make a stand to remain in the hunt for competition honours.
Coach Leon MacDonald said: "We have always said that we have brought Beauden to the Blues to run the cutter but after the season-ending injury to Stephen Perofeta, it forced a rethink. He was our best option for fullback with the luxury of having another outstanding No 10 [first five-eighths] in Otere Black.
"I am sure he is looking forward to that challenge while Matt Duffie was good when he came on at fullback," he said.
Flanker Blake Gibson returns from injury to the blindside of the scrum.
"He is a key part to our loose forward mix, both defensively and with ball-in-hand and I am sure the team want him to enjoy his 50th game with a strong performance," MacDonald said.
The side would be seeking a more focused and energetic effort, especially from the pack to allow front-foot ball for the backline.
"Defence has been a key. We missed 30 tackles last week which is not going to enable us to win many games. With that issue and a platform that was not as stable as it has been, we did well to have our noses in front inside the last 10 minutes [against the Hurricanes].
"There were lots of good things with our lineout, mauls and some good carries. We know the Chiefs are much better than their results and will bring everything to this match as they always do," he said.
Chiefs coach Warren Gatland has made only one change to his 23 for the game. A calf strain to loosehead prop Aidan Ross has seen Reuben O'Neill come into the side.
Gatland said the team were ready for the contest.
"Last weekend we had the opportunity to finish the job off, but as we have seen in this competition, you need to deliver an 80-minute performance, or longer in some instances, and we didn't do that.
"This week we are looking for that consistency, starting strong once again and then continuing to stay in the game and maintain our focus on what we can control," he said.
The game is an important milestone for loose forward Adam Thomson who should come off the bench to reach 100 Super Rugby games – that after making his debut 15 seasons ago.
His record saw 67 games for the Highlanders, 15 games for the Reds, 13 games for the Rebels while he has rounded out his record for the Chiefs.
Thomson said: "It's pretty crazy. I let this dream go a while ago, so to do it at this age, with a team like the Chiefs, is pretty special.
"The extra edge is coming back from major illness [lumbar discitis – an infection of the spine] and being able to have the opportunity of coming back and starting at club level, scrapping my way through Mitre 10 Cup and then returning to Super [Rugby].
"Every day for me is a bonus and this is a great environment to be in," he said.
